Care Home Chef Reaches Finals Of National Competition
Humberston chef Bev Frame is hoping to serve up a recipe for success when he takes part in the finals of a national Care Chef of the Year competition on Wednesday (October 28).
At the Caring Times Care Chef award finals in London, Bev will have to cook a nutritious three course meal prepared from his own recipe and sampled by a panel of four judges. He will take his own ingredients and will be given up to one and a half hours to produce his finished dishes, at a total cost of no more than £5!
Bev, who is the chef at the HICA Group’s Alderlea care home in Humberston, Cleethorpes, reached the finals after being nominated by his employers.
His three-course meal will consist of a pea and ham soup with cheese straws, baked chicken and cranberry loaf with a fresh tomato and basil sauce, duchess potatoes and fresh vegetables, and a caramel cream dessert.
Bev said: “I’m quite nervous about cooking for the panel of judges but I’m also pleased to have reached the finals and to be representing Alderlea and the HICA Group. We are proud of the high standard of our food at Alderlea and recognise the importance of providing older people with tasty, nutritional meals.”
Bev will find out if he has served up the winning menu on November 28 when the national Care Chef of the Year is announced at a gala awards evening in London, hosted by Ruby Wax.
