To mark the launch of the new club, HICA will be bringing out the bunting and balloons for a party on March 19 at The Rowans care home on West Ella Road, Kirk Ella.

Relatives, HICA board members and care home managers will join the 100 Club members for a Victorian afternoon tea and ‘land girls’ type entertainment. HICA Care Homes Director Ty Platten will present each 100 Club member with a commemorative plate engraved with a recent photograph of them. They will also receive a HICA 100 badge.

The oldest HICA 100 Club member is 107-year-old Elizabeth Riley, from the Albemarle care home in Hedon, and the only male member is 100-year-old Bill Harvey, also from Albemarle.

Ty Platten said: “We are delighted that so many of our residents have reached such an age. It’s a tremendous achievement and one we are recognising by launching the HICA 100 Club.”

“We are also planning to acknowledge their long life by developing a dedicated area on our website to record some of the many interesting aspects of their lives,” he added.

Mr Platten previously spent nine years in the private hospital and care sector, working as a Regional Manager for BUPA in the North and before that as National Network Development Manager for Nuffield Hospitals.

Commenting on his new role with HICA, he said: “An important consideration for me taking up this appointment is that HICA is a not-for-profit organisation and is therefore totally committed to providing a high quality service – any money generated is invested back into resident care and staff development.”

“HICA sets an example of best practice for other care organisations to follow throughout the UK. For example, the vast majority of HICA’s care homes have been recently rated as good or excellent under the Government-regulated Commission for Social Care Inspection scheme, and ratings of that level are unprecedented for medium to large organisations in the care sector,” he added.

Born and bred in Hull, Mr Platten gained a Law and Business Degree at the University of Lincolnshire and Humberside and trained as a barrister in London before working in the private hospital and care sector.
