Hica To Introduce New Sports Sessions At Its Care Homes

SportsabilityThe Isaac Robinson Court sessions, delivered by the Hull-based company Sportsability, involved residents taking part in games of bowls and golf using specialist indoor equipment.

Isaac Robinson Court Manager Mark Green said: “The feedback from residents was very positive and they are looking forward to future sessions. Some of them were initially a little reserved but they soon came forward to have a go. The animated faces and laughter coming from the room was proof of how much they enjoyed it.”

Adam Rhodes, Managing Director of Sportsability, said: “Our programmes provide forms of sport which are physically fulfilling as well as educational. Sports such as bowls and golf have proved to be beneficial for people with dementia as they can help to trigger memories. Ageing can also affect muscles and joints and we have found that our sports sessions can reduce stiffness and make people more flexible. The aim of the sessions is not only to have fun but also to encourage physical activity, balance, co-ordination and interaction with others. “

Sportsability’s range of activities include bowls, golf, cricket, dance, games and activities, and chair aerobics.
