Joint Venture Company Bases Headquarters In Hull

After recently gaining Heartbeat healthy eating awards for care homes in Goole and Bridlington, HICA has become one of only a few care providers in the UK to have almost all its homes meet the Heartbeat criteria.

The award scheme is nationally recognised and is operated by the local authority in conjunction with the health authority.

James Pickering, HICA Care Homes Catering Manager, said: “24 of our 26 care homes now meet the Heartbeat award criteria and the remaining two have submitted their applications. This makes us one of only a few care providers in the UK to be in this position.”

“The latest Heartbeat awards for HICA demonstrate how seriously we take healthy eating. As an organisation that looks after vulnerable members of the community it is extremely important that we provide healthy and tasty menus and a healthy environment. To become an approved food supplier to HICA, companies must agree to provide low fat and low salt products,” he added.

The three latest HICA care homes to get the Heartbeat award are Prospect House in Goole, and Red House and Kirkgate House, Bridlington.

Prospect House Chef Sally Howard said: “Our menus contain plenty of healthy eating options and are complemented by a number of themed special events, such as a Summer food fayre, pie and pea suppers with low fat ingredients and carveries featuring lean white meat. We have also introduced pictorial menus on a trial basis to make it easier for residents to choose meals.”
