HICA Achieves Hat Trick Of Success In Care Home Star Rating Scheme

The HICA Group is celebrating a hat trick of success after the Tamarix Lodge care home in Withernsea became its third care home in the East Riding to gain a 3 Star ‘excellent’ rating – the highest award achievable under a national inspection scheme to judge standards of care in care homes.

Tamarix Lodge, in Queen Street, Withernsea, received its 3 Star ‘excellent’ rating after a visit by the Commission for Social Care Inspection (CSCI). The care home now joins the ranks of two other HICA care homes – Holyrood House in Hedon and Kirkgate House in Bridlington – to gain the 3 Star ‘excellent’ rating.

The CSCI inspection report for Tamarix Lodge noted: “Residents are very well supported with care and health care that meets their needs and their expectations. They experience good levels of privacy, have their dignity maintained and their right to make decisions respected. The home is providing an excellent palliative care liaison service to people.

“Residents are encouraged and assisted to maintain contact with family and friends, and to exercise choice and control over their lives. Staff are well inducted, trained, skilled and experienced to provide a good service of care and support to people.”

The reported added: “Residents said the staff are excellent, the food is very good, and meals are relaxed and unhurried.”

Tamarix Lodge Manager Lynn Allwood said: “The team at Tamarix Lodge have all worked extremely hard to achieve and maintain high standards, so we are delighted to receive this top award, which recognises the effort everyone has made.”

Commenting on the 3 star award, Ty Platten, Director of the HICA Group’s Care Homes Division, said: “Tamarix Lodge previously received a 2 Star ‘good’ rating under the national inspection scheme. To move from good to excellent takes a real understanding of the regulations, a real commitment to person centred care, determination, consistency and leadership. Well done to all the team at Tamarix.”

Tamarix Lodge, which can accommodate 37 residents, has recently benefited from substantial HICA investment, which has included the installation of solar panels, refurbishment of lounges and dining area.

HICA is a not-for-profit organisation with 26 care homes throughout East Yorkshire and Lincolnshire.
