Bridlington Care Homes Gain Heartbeat Healthy Eating Award

Staff and residents at two HICA care homes in Bridlington are celebrating after the homes gained a Heartbeat award for healthy eating.

The two homes are Red House, at St Annes Road, and Kirkgate House, Kirkgate, Bridlington. The Heartbeat scheme is nationally recognised and is operated by the local authority in conjunction with the health authority.

The managers and catering staff at both homes have made sure that residents have a varied and healthy menu, prepared in a healthy environment.

James Pickering, HICA Care Homes Catering Manager, said: “This latest Heartbeat award for HICA demonstrates how seriously we take healthy eating. As an organisation that cares for older people and adults with learning disabilities it is extremely important that we provide healthy and tasty menus and a healthy environment. To become an approved food supplier to HICA, companies must agree to provide low fat and low salt products.”

“The awards at Bridlington mean that 24 of our 26 care homes now meet the Heartbeat award criteria and the remaining two have submitted their applications. This makes us one of only a few care providers in the UK to have such a large proportion of care homes meeting the criteria,” he added.
